Magnesium Benefits
What is Magnesium?
Magnesium is one of the most important minerals to stay healthy since this is one of the most abundant in our body. Likewise, it is one of the most abundant on earth and is found mainly in the oceans. Its high demand and importance in the well-being of the body are responsible for the 850,000 tons produced each year.
What is Magnesium used for?
Magnesium is necessary to maintain optimal functioning of different systems in the body such as the muscular, nervous and immune systems. Magnesium keeps the heartbeat at a healthy rate, helps bones stay strong, adjusts blood glucose levels, and helps in energy and protein production.
In addition, this nutrient affects the way in which brain cells absorb and use other nootropics, enhancing their effects.
Scientific studies show that:
- Magnesium is necessary for more than 600 biochemical reactions in the body.
- Magnesium increases the capacity for learning and long-term memory.
- Magnesium suppresses the release of the stress hormone ACTH and relieves depression.
- Lack of magnesium is highly associated as a causative factor for attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD).
- People who consume magnesium have a lower risk of heart disease and stroke.
- People who consume magnesium have a lower risk of developing type II diabetes.
- Magnesium is an option for the prevention and treatment of migraines as well as other headaches.
Why should we take Magnesium?
According to the World Health Organization, 75% of Americans consume less magnesium than the body requires, causing a deficiency of this nutrient. There are health conditions (type II diabetes and gastrointestinal diseases) which make it difficult to digest magnesium, causing a deficit.
There are 3 levels regarding the lack of this mineral:
low deficiency
These include: loss of appetite, nausea, fatigue, weakness, and vomiting.
medium deficiency
Symptoms at this level are numbness, tingling, muscle twitching, cramps, seizures, personality changes, and irregular heartbeat.
high deficiency
Lastly, a high deficiency of this nutrient results in low calcium and low potassium in the blood which causes hypocalcemia and hypokalemia.
What foods contain Magnesium?
One of the richest sources of magnesium are green leafy vegetables such as spinach and Swiss chard.
Other sources of this mineral are legumes, nuts, seeds, fish, beans, lentils, cereals, avocado, fruit, milk and yogurt.
How is magnesium taken?
The RDA for magnesium is different for each age.
Sex |
Dose (mg/day) |
adult man |
400 - 420 |
adult woman |
310 - 320 |
A dose of POWER allows to satisfy the necessary demand for magnesium in the body. The magnesium stearate ingredient in our capsules provides the benefits listed above.
Magnesium stearate is a magnesium salt that allows the capsules to be better swallowed and moved through the gastrointestinal tract. It also enhances the effects of the main active ingredients of the product, improving its absorption, solubility and consistency.
How does Magnesium work in the brain?
Magnesium is a key nutrient for maintaining neuroplasticity which is responsible for learning and memory. Magnesium ions control ion channels for signaling between neurons. The stronger the channels, the stronger the connections and the stronger the memory formation.
Another key function of magnesium in the brain is in the synthesis of ATP which is the main source of energy for brain cells. For ATP to be active, it must bind to a magnesium ion to help cleanse, maintain cells, and send signals from one neuron to another for learning, memory, recall, and cognition functions. Without magnesium, ATP cannot be produced causing brain functions to stop working.
What are the benefits of Magnesium?
It has been reported that taking magnesium supplements increases the level of concentration, energy, memory and cognitive level.
In addition, it was observed that there is a better quality of sleep and an improvement in mood.
What are the side effects of Magnesium?
Side effects from a high magnesium intake are not common as the body has the ability to eliminate excessive amounts.
If you ingest a large amount of this nutrient, you may suffer from a drop in blood pressure (hypertension), confusion, lethargy, heart rhythm disturbances, impaired kidney function, muscle weakness, and difficulty breathing. .
